I have loved old stuff all my life. Just yesterday I
bought a piece of Delft and I thought to myself how
long have you loved this stuff? I realized it was
probably when I would visit my neighbor across the
street from my girlhood home. Mrs. C was Dutch and
collected Delft. It was probably in her home that I
first fell in love with it. I have been to the Netherlands
a few times but never to Delft.
I'll have to make it there on my next trip!

I sent this photo to Mrs. C's kids and her daughter
sent me this photo.
Wow! This is Debbie's collection. She said her daughter
has her Mom's collection ~ just as it should be. It is great
to see families pass their treasures to younger generations.
My first time in my adult life (went as a hippie in the 60's), to Amsterdam with my youngest, on our way to Israel, I schlepped her on the train through the Tulip fields to Delft!! I don't think she has ever forgiven me! lol She was in middle school. Now, she would love it.
ReplyDeleteTess, I have been through the trip fields but not to Delft. Have you been to Kuekenhof?
DeleteBack in 1970 we took a trip to Amsterdam and Germany and on the TWA flight they gave us a Delft pitcher as a little gift. They did that back then and I still have it all these years later. Daughter went to Amsterdam last year and I asked her to bring me back a piece..she had a small fit when she saw how much it cost but she did bring me back a beautiful plate with a boat on it....
ReplyDeleteOn your next trip you have to visit Delft Sue.
